Immediately upon arriving at the cave in Nepal, I was struck by the beautiful patterning that criss-crossed all the walls and rocks of the cave. My first rubbing in graphite was done that day from a rock on top of the mound over the cave. I saw these markings as pure abstraction. It was a few days later that Tsultrim Allione (the leader of our pilgrimage group) said that the markings on the cave walls were called “Dakini Writing.” After hearing that, I began to recognize the “energy bodies” in the network of lines. “Twilight Language” was done from this initial rubbing.
